TODAY BACK THEN: TV SHOW INTRO

Using the illustrations I created for my TodayBackThen website, I cut and animated them for the TV show version of 'TodayBackThen'. Aiming for an audience somewhere beyond 'Horrible Histories', but not as far as a 'grown-up's' history show, it’s something I continue to add to through various projects. Animated content in a historical or heritage context can create more engagement, and reach audiences.

TODAY BACK THEN: MINI ANIMATIONS

As a boy (and man), comics were a huge interest of mine. I perhaps, didn’t realise as a boy, but reading them exposed my brain to lots of different subjects like philosophy, science, civil liberties, prejudice, religion and history etc.

I’ve carried all these interests into adulthood. The animations and the illustrations below are from a history/illustration site I was running for a while. Animation, even in this lo-fi style can bring more life to these important points of history, especially to younger viewers.

I would love to speak to anyone in the sector who feels this kind of work could be of benefit to them and their audience. If that's you, feel free to get in touch and we can have a talk.

TODAY BACK THEN: ILLUSTRATIONS: This project initially began as a more ‘editorial’ type cartoon. In the newspaper, I used to love reading the ‘fact of the day’ type sections on the crossword pages. Surely there were images there too, but my memory fades…
I figured some images like this would be a useful way to do this.

I work with both traditional and digital tools. It’s where the ‘sketchbook-element’ name of the site came from many years ago. Eventually though, things get brought into the like of Photoshop and After Effects.
