THE LAB: illustration / motion
This is where I play. Between projects I like to add to my learning or work on personal projects. I do this with both motion and illustration projects. And in no particular order. There’s a gallery for both motion and illustration projects to look through here. No need for case studies with these ones. Click an image to jump to the project!
DC Head Animation:
This is my younger self based on a comic I did years ago about me and the boys and a day in the life of us working in a supermarket together. I want to do more animating like this, so I'll have to work on translating my current style that allows for easier animating. Wish me luck! Made using AI/AE/JoysticksandSliders
motion play
January has me feeling… 😳! Here’s a few motion playthings from around this time.
Travel Sketches
I always like to do a bit of sketching when I go visit somewhere new. Or at least take photos to reference later. There’s always a small notebook on hand if I head out for a few quiet drinks with the missus. Images below are from Australia, Poland, Lisbon, England. I’ve a few other countries to add sketches from soon.
WAREHOUSE WORK: MOTION POSTER/SKETCHES/COMICS
For too long between design jobs, I was working in a warehouse. I made a load pf great friends from all over. The work could be really tough and monotonous. I used to drive around and share sketches I’d done of people in there and made little comics about different situations in there. I thought it might be cool to make a Drew Sturzan style movie poster of the the place and main characters. A couple of years after, I had developed some motion skills, so used the poster as a chance to experiment with. Most things started as pen sketches, then were worked up in Procreate. I've put the rough and final versions up. Click to embiggen!
