THE FRONTLINE PROJECT: KEY WORKERS APPRECIATION PROJECT
THE CHALLENGE: The pandemic has knocked a load of people on their asses but there are a lot of people who have had to stand strong. Every right-minded person understands the bravery, importance and value of the NHS staff. Outside our hospitals, there is a untold amount of people, who every day of the week, provide essential services.
THE SOLUTION: I was approached by my friends and organisers of the Creative Mornings chapter in Leamington Spa to see if I could help design an illustration for The Frontline Project. The aim of the project was to display an appreciation of all key workers. This illustration would form part of a website where we could gather donations for a charity and be the basis of permanent mural in town for the local key workers. The idea was to expand on the idea of NHS Heroes.
MY ROLE: I wanted to create a comic-book aesthetic, with a group hero shot, with different kinds of key-workers pushing on against a background of alarm and a continuing spread of the virus. The word in my head for describing these workers was 'fortitude'. I provided the artwork and logo designs and animations for the project. Added to the mix was a colouring book that was free to download by visitors and schools to provide a learning point for children about how important people who worked these jobs actually are.
